Plant the Seed!

It’s a new year… It’s time to make a resolution to make our lives better than the year before. A resolution is defined as “a firm decision to do or not to do something”. So, if we want our children to make the decision not to engage in substance use and other at-risk behaviors, then we need to SAY something NOW. We don’t want to wait until it’s too late and the damage is already done. Starting now prevents the damage that drug use can do later.

So, in 2019, Just Say Something is encouraging parents to “plant the seed” of drug prevention in their kids by starting and having ongoing conversations about the effects of alcohol, tobacco, and other substances on young minds and bodies. Eventually, the seeds of prevention will take root and grow into trees that stand tall, strong, and firm, able to withstand the constant onslaught of the “gale force winds” of peer pressure; boredom; escapism and instant gratification; low self-esteem; misinformation; e-cigarette / tobacco advertising; and so much more.

It may seem trivial, but parents having regular conversations with kids can lead to responsible decisions and actions by their kids. So, we need to resolve to start now and do it often so that our conversations can take root, grow, and influence our kids’ decisions. Choose to be present in 2019 with words, information, and interaction… You won’t have to give anything up and you’ll be happy with what you may gain.

So, make a resolution to be a Just Say Something #ConversationStarter. #JustSaySomething about the dangers of drug use on a regular basis to your kids, no matter what their age. That’s our opinion. Share yours at info@justsaysomethingsc.org. #StartTalking.
